Dot to Dot 2008

Managed to get down to catch some of the action on the Sunday, I was covering the City Pulse festival nearby so legged it over as soon as that finished for the day. For those of you who are wondering Dot to Dot is an annual festival in Nottingham put on by Daybrook House, the people behind Nottingham’s Rock City, across the swath of venues they own in Nottingham. Its one of my favourite events in the Nottingham calendar and a big one for the local music scene. With my LeftLion hat on I was also marshalling a team of writers and photographers who I had down covering it for the LeftLion website.

The lineup was huuuge, however with only a few hours to go when I showed up on the last day I was still pleased to catch a fair few bands, including: Hatcham Social, Sons and Daughters, Two Gallants, Get Cape Wear Cape Fly and Spirtualized. Sadly missed out on seeing Santogold who were headlining in the Rescue Rooms as their show was packed to the rafters, we tried hustling round via the various back entrances but even they were jam packed.

Stand out moments included witnessing some crazy freestyle hairdressing from the Muk guys who had set up shop in the upstairs bar in the Rescue Rooms, and Spiritualized who put on a set quite unlike anything I’ve seen. Their pulsing wall of psychedlic noise with bluesy gospel overtones was great to listen to but a bitch to take pictures of, thanks to a combination of smoke machines, bright spots and a band who are loath to leave their pedals. Good fun though, better viewed with a pint on!

Check out the rest of the set on Flickr

Dot to Dot 2008 took place on Saturday 24th and Sunday 25th of May across the Rock City family of venues in Nottingham.
